LOCAL GOVERNMENTS WANT TO GIVE RESIDENTS RIGHT TO VOTE ON REAL ESTATE TRANSFER TAXES BUT DON'T WANT RESIDENTS TO BE ABLE TO VOTE ON ANNEXATION AND EMINENT DOMAIN
The League of Municipalities and the Association of County Commissioners are working to push a home tax bill through the General Assembly. The home tax is a real estate transfer tax and it will cost homeowners a 1 percent sales tax when they sell their home.
The League and Association of County Commissioners support a local option referendum, that will allow voters to decide to accept a home tax in their community.
Yet, the League and Association of County Commissioners are opposed to any referendums that would allow voters to decide issues such as forced annexation and eminent domain.
The League and County Commissioners Association only want to have voter referendums on issues that impact their pocketbooks - not on property right issues.
It's a game of smoke and mirrors, yet, we believe voters can see the transparency clear and plain.
The Home Tax is a new tax being considered in the Legislature. The Home Tax is a tax on the American Dream. It's a tax on the sweat and hard work you have put in your home to build equity.
It's a bad idea.
That's why nearly 81% of voters across North Carolina are opposed to the Home Tax, however, there are some lawmakers and special interest groups push to raise your taxes.
Take action today. Visit our website at www.itsabadidea.org to write your legislator an e-mail and let them know you are opposed to the NC Home Tax.
